You guys, it is high time for a giveaway, so I decided how about today!
The question I am going to ask is going to coincide with the item I am giving away.
A couple of months ago, it was brought to my attention that some people keep their butter out on the countertop, rather than in the fridge. This makes great sense because the butter would be spreadable and easier to manage, but I never even knew it was an option. I thought it HAD to be refrigerated. Silly me. Then I asked my Facebook friends and most everyone on there said they kept theirs out at room temp at all times! Well, blow me down!
So.
I want to give you one of my favorite items from my all time favorite kitchen item brand - Le Creuset. I cook with Le Crueset pans and stockpots and they are BY FAR the best. They are absolutely fabulous. I have also collected some of their smaller pieces, such as pitchers, salt and pepper shakers, and of course, the butter dish.
Today, I want to give one lucky commenter a butter dish of your color choice! You will absolutely LOVE this beaut.
All you have to do is answer my question!
DO YOU KEEP YOUR BUTTER IN THE FRIDGE OR ON THE COUNTERTOP?
If you want to increase your chances of winning, simply Blog, Tweet, or Facebook about this giveaway and then enter yourself again for as many times as you tout it!
Look at all the pretty colors!
OOOOHHH LA LA!
I collect the cookware in all sorts of colors, but my butter dish is red and it's beautiful. I love it!
This dish comes from Williams Sonoma, and is ready to find a new home in your kitchen! :)
Good luck, loves. Winner announced Monday!

I keep mine in the fridge! My grandparents kept theirs out and I always assumed you would get sick or something :) I guess I am paranoid. I love the red dish!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!
ReplyDeleteCOUNTER! Otherwise you tear your toast trying to spread cold butter. No good.
Thanks for the fun giveaway!
Fridge! But I like cold butter on my bread.
ReplyDeleteI went to Culinary School and learned early on that butter didn't have to be in the frig.. so yes, I store my butter a couple of sticks outside the frig and then I also keep a bunch of it frozen until I need it
ReplyDeleteBoth! I love to keep some in the fridge for when I need it (making crumb toppings, etc.), but I also like it to be soft for making cookies on a whim or to use for corn on the cob!
ReplyDeleteOMG I love soft butter so much that I microwave it before I use it, lol! I never knew it was an option to keep out, either!! Ours is always in the fridge... Not for long though! I love this dish and all le Creuset products!
ReplyDeleteOMG I love soft butter so much that I microwave it before I use it, lol! I never knew it was an option to keep out, either!! Ours is always in the fridge... Not for long though! I love this dish and all le Creuset products!
ReplyDeleteI love the colors of these butter dishes! I keep mine in the frog but didn't know you could leave it out. Silly me too!
ReplyDeleteI blogged!
ReplyDeleteI tweeted!
ReplyDeleteWe do both! Love the butter dish!
ReplyDeleteI did NOT know butter stays ok in room temperature! In fact, it's hard for me to believe it even now :D Do we have different kind of butter in Europe..? I've heard you can keep it in cold water, but.. I always keep our butter in the fridge. But because it's too hard to spread on bread, we spread something called "Oivariini" on our bread - it's a mixture of butter and canola oil and that makes it softer even if it's cold :)
ReplyDeleteOn the counter! My husband is freaked out about the counter butter and refuses to eat it, so we also keep a stick in the fridge.
ReplyDeleteI keep ours in the fridge but I always have to microwave it so keeping it on the countertop would be much more sensible!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I have been wondering this same thing! Right now we have it in the fridge but don't like how hard it is. I'd love to put it on the counter!
ReplyDeleteWe are refrigerator people. I have been looking for a good butter dish for years, but have thumbed my nose at the cheap plastic ones and been unwilling to shell out for a good one. :)
ReplyDeleteIn the fridge! Counter butter freaks me out :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a stubborn, keep-it-in-the-fridge kind of gal, but I always get frustrated when it's too cold to spread! :)
ReplyDeleteI've always kept mine on the counter! I guess because that's how my momma did it.
ReplyDeleteinside the fridge! i, too, didn't realize this wasn't a must!
ReplyDeletejmr224 at gmail dot com
I usually keep mine on the counter, but sometimes it gets too hot and melts all over the place so i have to leave it in the fridge!
ReplyDeleteI leave mine in the fridge. I heard once that unsalted butter needs to be refrigerated and salted is ok to stay on the counter. I'm not sure how true that is, but since I use unsalted, it goes in the fridge!
ReplyDeleteI keep mine in the fridge!
ReplyDeleteWhitney
I keep mine in the fridge...but i totally need one of these in my life, room temperature butter is so much easier to work with!
ReplyDeleteI have always kept mine in the fridge. I know people that keep theirs on the counter, but I thought it would "keep" better in the fridge. Plus, every little bit of counter space helps, since I have a small kitchen.
ReplyDeleteFridge. It irrationally bothers me that my MIL keeps hers out? It SEEMED unhealthy...it's not?
ReplyDeleteBoth! On the counter for when it needs to be spread onto something, and in the fridge for all other uses :-) Would you believe I've been on the hunt for a butter dish for YEARS??? The one we have doesn't have a handle on top and if the outside gets a speck of butter on it, it is impossible to just lift the lid off; I have to use the knife to lift it up a bit to get a good hold on the cover. Growing up my parents had (and still have actually) a stainless steel one with a handle. I've not had any luck finding a handled one at any of the stores around here. I may have to just order one of these...if I don't win one :-)
ReplyDeleteFridge!!! I know it doesn't have to be refrigerated, but we use butter so infrequently, and storing it on the counter kinda freaks me out!
ReplyDeleteFridge! If I want to bake, I'll set it out for a few hours, but otherwise it stays in the fridge.
ReplyDeleteOn a day to day basis I keep it in the fridge...but leave it on the container on days there's a whole lot of spreading going on. I guess I always figured that since butter is in the refrigerator section of at the grocery store it should be kept there at home too.
ReplyDeleteFridge...on the counter sounds a little icky even though it would be more practical for spreading.
ReplyDeleteBOTH! One stick on the countertop - soft & spreadable...another in the fridge for those few recipes that require it be solid (like when making a crumble/crisp topping).
ReplyDeleteI keep my butter in the fridge. I do set it out if I know I am going to use it soon though.
ReplyDeleteI've been married 52 years. Butter on the countertop all the way.
ReplyDeleteBoth:) but I have a glass container you put on the counter that you fill with cold water to keep it cool
ReplyDeleteBut spreadable:)
I keep it in the fridge and had NO idea that anyone kept it out on the counter. Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteI keep mine in the fridge. If I left it on the counter I have a little boy in my house who would eat it like candy!
ReplyDeleteI'm a rule-follower and even though my in-laws and other family keep their yummy spreadable butter on the counter...mine is hard as a rock in the fridge, just like the darn label says!!! Haha. :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I am going to be baking I keep one out on the counter at all times. :)
ReplyDeleteI keep mine in the fridge but mostly just because I don't have a butter dish to keep it covered. Love this giveaway! :)
ReplyDeleteI keep mine on the counter. Way better that way! :)
ReplyDeleteI grew up with it on the counter, but my husband freaks if it is left out, so we keep it in the fridge now!
ReplyDeleteThe fridge...can I be honest? I didn't know people kept it on the counter...now I'm wondering about this...
ReplyDeleteI keep mine in the fridge... There is just something about cold butter! Just kidding :)
ReplyDeleteI keep it in the fridge! Didn't know you could keep it on the counter!
ReplyDeleteCounter! I love Le Creuset.
ReplyDeleteI keep mine in the fridge, but I know it doesn't technically need to be refrigerated. If I had a cute butter dish I think I'd switch to keeping it on the counter!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win!
Stefibeth @ aol.com
I keep mine in the fridge, but on the counter before baking.
ReplyDeleteI keep one stick on the counter and the rest in the fridge :)
ReplyDeleteI'd prefer to have it out on the countertop, but we don't really go through enough of it to make it worthwhile - it goes bad sitting out before we can get through a whole stick!
ReplyDeleteWe have a LeCreuset butter crock, that we keep our butter in and out on the counter.
ReplyDeleteThis is the Williams Sonoma link to the one we have:
http://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/6155253/?catalogId=84&bnrid=3120901&cm_ven=Google_PLA&cm_cat=Tabletop_Bar&cm_pla=Serveware&cm_ite=Le_Creuset_Stoneware_Butter_Crock_Marseille_Blue&adtype=pla&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=6155253
You put cold water in it and it keeps the butter fresher than just leaving it out on the counter but more spreadable than in the fridge, best of both worlds! :) I LOVE all those pretty colored butter dishes though!
Great giveaway! This would look beautiful in the fridge:)
ReplyDeleteI keep my butter tub in the fridge, but whenever I have stick butter (like that would look gorgeous on that tray!), I keep it on the counter :-)
ReplyDeleteI keep mine out (in the cabinet, not on the counter because I don't have a lot of counter space). I LOVE the softened butter for toast!
ReplyDeleteAnd we keep in in the paper it comes in, on a paper plate in the cabinet. Classy, I know!!
ReplyDeleteLike you I have ALWAYS kept it in the fridge-thought you had to! And I LOVE Le Creuset!
ReplyDeleteFridge...I've heard that it's safe to leave it out on the counter, but it weirds me out too much.
ReplyDeleteI keep mine in the fridge, I also had no idea you could just keep it on the counter top all day!
ReplyDeleteFridge - it's how I was brought up! I wonder if THAT has something to do with the different ways people store it?
ReplyDeleteI keep mine in the fridge typically, but at times I have some on the counter as well so that it stays nice and soft!
ReplyDeleteWe keep ours in the fridge. I like this piece!
ReplyDeleteWe keep ours in the fridge. Love this piece!
ReplyDeleteI keep some in the fridge and some on the counter
ReplyDeleteFridge. I knew it was possible to keep on the counter but everytime I think about changing to it, I just can't.
ReplyDeleteI never knew you could keep butter out on the counter! I've always kept mine in the fridge! I usually buy "tub" margarine but real butter is so much better :) I have a red kitchen, so I love that red one!
ReplyDeleteIn the fridge...I had no idea!
ReplyDeleteI keep mine out on the counter! So easy to spread :)
ReplyDeleteI keep mine in the fridge - but my mom keeps hers on the counter, and that actually seems to work much better!
ReplyDeleteIn the fridge! Oh, I hope I win this because right now when I serve butter I put it on a saucer. It's embarrassing, really.
ReplyDeleteI keep mine in the fridge. Like you, I didn't know there was any other option! I always hate how it's cold and I get impatient when I'm baking and waiting for it to get to room temp. Maybe I will switch! Especially if I win :) I love Le Creuset, I have several of their dishes in blue so would love a matching butter dish!
ReplyDeleteButter on the counter, margarine in the fridge ... whenever we keep margarine, which is ... never. So the counter it is! Love Le Creuset! I love to snag them for cheap at TJ Maxx. Those dishes are adorable!
ReplyDeleteUsually keep the butter in the fridge....probably because if I saw the butter on the counter I would want to make chocolate chip cookies every.single.day. Ha!
ReplyDeleteThe dishes are gorgeous.....love the blue!
On the counter! Btw, I see these butter dishes a lot on discount at tj Maxx! Never have the color I want, but just thought I'd share! Hope I win because I neeeeeeed the blue one :)
ReplyDeleteIn the fridge. I grew up with it on the counter and would still, but my MIL (who lives with us) is kind of paranoid and is sure we'll all die of food poisoning if the butter is left on the counter.
ReplyDeleteI keep it in the fridge normally unless I know I will be cooking with it often in the next few days and then I tend to leave it out but in a cool spot in our kitchen.
ReplyDeleteFRIDGE! I pull it out onto the counter to let it soften if I know we will be using it.
ReplyDeleteI'm super paranoid about all things dairy. I would never be comfortable with it on the counter! But I love butter dishes!
I've always kept it in the fridge. I didn't know it could go on the countertop...I thought since it was dairy it would spoil, kinda like milk! If I had a nice butter dish, I might be pursuaded to switch to countertop though!
ReplyDeleteI am a fridge girl, I also know many who keep it on the counter, but I am afraid of it becoming rancid!
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree, Le Creuset is the best!
Growing up we always kept ours on the counter - at least the one that was "in use" and all the other sticks in the fridge. Now I keep all mine in the fridge only because I don't have a butter dish. So if I get one, I will keep a stick on the counter. (-:
ReplyDelete~Kathryn
I don't know anyone who keeps their butter on the counter...I didn't even know it was an option!
ReplyDeleteWe don't eat much butter so I bet it would go bad before it was all gone. Maybe I'll start with half a stick :)
Blogged! BTW I would pick the red one. :)
ReplyDeletefromnowtoeternety.blogspot.com
Never even thought of doing this before; we always kept ours in the fridge when I was little so I do it now too...but I'm going to have to try leaving it out!
ReplyDeleteIn the fridge, I hate hard butter, but makes me nervous to have out! :)
ReplyDeleteApparently I'm not hip on the new butter trend either. My butter still sits in the fridge!! ;-)
ReplyDeleteFridge! I had no idea you could keep it out! Still seems a little weird to me. :)
ReplyDeleteIn the fridge BUT I never knew I could leave it out! I may have to keep on stick out now. Heh the things we learn from you. :)
ReplyDeleteTweeted!
ReplyDeleteon the counter and I NEED one of these :) Love room temp butter!
ReplyDeleteFacebooked. :)
ReplyDeleteOn the counter! I love being able to spread it easily.
ReplyDeletei feel selfish entering since i've already won a giveaway, but i would keep my butter on my counter if i had that pretty dish! i try to keep my counters as decluttered as possible so our is in the fridge right now :)
ReplyDeleteAt room temperature. Covered (although not nearly in this cute of a dish) in a cupboard. Same thing my mom did when I was little :) Fun giveaway!
ReplyDeleteFridge all the way!
ReplyDeleteFridge for the most part. If I know we need it when company is coming over, out. I hate when it's too hard to spread!
ReplyDeleteThe more I think about it, I guess keeping it out on the counter to get soft would be best. But, we never use it to spread on anything, only to cook with, so ours is always in the fridge. And if a recipe calls for softened butter, I microwave that junk. Mmmmmm buttah!
ReplyDeleteI've always kept mine in the fridge too! Seems like dairy products should be kept cold--who knew!?
ReplyDeleteIn the fridge!
ReplyDeleteIn the fridge
ReplyDeleteIn the summer I keep it in the frig. In the winter on the counter.
ReplyDeleteFridge for sure.
ReplyDeletecountertop!
ReplyDeleteI keep mine in the fridge because I too, never knew it was an option to keep it on the counter!!
ReplyDeleteI keep mine in the fridge...never knew it didn't have to be in there!
ReplyDeleteFridge....at my house, it might melt or get eaten if left on the counter.
ReplyDeleteI've always kept my butter in the fridge! I didn't know leaving it out was safe but it makes a lot of sense, I might have to try leaving it out now!
ReplyDeleteWe keep ours in the fridge but with this pretty dish I may want it on the counter ;)
ReplyDeletetanyainjville at yahoo dot com
Fridge--but with a fun dish, that would change!
ReplyDeleteWe keep ours in the fridge...until now! Planning on changing that! I've always wanted to keep it out, but never thought I could. Thanks for this awesome post!!!
ReplyDelete~Susan
I keep ours out of the fridge, in a little dish in the pantry. So much easier to spread that way. My Mom always did that, so it was natural for me to do it.
ReplyDeleteWhat?!?!! I had NO idea you could keep it out!! I have always kept it in the fridge because I too thought you had to!! Wow, you definitely do learn something new everyday LOL! :D
ReplyDeleteI keep it in the fridge!! I remember my sister-in-law teaching me you could leave it on the counter and being SHOCKED!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI definitely keep mine on the counter top!
ReplyDeleteFridge generally, but sometimes I gets left out. That's okay in the winter but with our hot Texas summers it's a pool of butter if I leave it out too long.
ReplyDeleteGrowing up, we always kept the butter on the counter. Always. Even in the heat, when it would melt. I don't now, but that is mostly because I don't use butter very often (sigh... freshly buttered bread is one of the best things in life, but not good for my figure) and refrigerated butter lasts longer.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the fun!
Always and forever on the countertop....at least since I moved out of my folks house cause they use margarine
ReplyDeleteFridge!!! I love cold, cold, COLD butter!! Mmmm.... I need a saltine. ;)
ReplyDeleteMy mom keeps hers in on the counter, and we keep ours in the fridge.
ReplyDeleteIf we need spreadable butter we use country crock.. when we bake I use real butter.
Countertop..
ReplyDeleteAlways been in the fridge, but will try out counter. Love this butter dish!
ReplyDeleteI keep it in the fridge. I'm scared someone will get sick of I leave it out! (Irrational, I know!)
ReplyDeletePosted about the giveaway on Facebook. :-)
ReplyDeleteOut on the counter. It is very difficult to spread cold butter on my toast. :)

ReplyDeleteOhhh...those are beautiful!! I keep my butter on the counter, because I bake a LOT and I always need softened butter!
ReplyDeleteI've done both but usually it's in the fridge.
ReplyDeleteMine is in the fridge, but it must be real butter. I really did not know you could leave it out either! Who knew
ReplyDeleteMostly in the fridge, but some weeks on the counter!
ReplyDeleteFridge! Our kitchen gets so hot that it would be a big, greasy puddle on the counter.
ReplyDeleteIn the fridge
ReplyDeleteTweeted it!
ReplyDeletePut a comment on Facebook.
ReplyDeleteI keep my butter on the counter. I can't stand hard butter when it comes to toast. I generally just keep a small portion out at a time though.
ReplyDeleteI love the red! My husband likes the butter on the counter, but it has always seemed weird (in a salmonella kinda way) to me.
ReplyDeletefridge. But mainly because I've never had a butter dish??
ReplyDeleteI tweeted!! :)
ReplyDeleteBoth! I keep most of it in the fridge and I usually have a stick out for easy spreading on a plate on the counter.
ReplyDeleteCountertop! Of course.
ReplyDeleteI keep mine in the fridge! I love all of the colors, but the red would match my kitchen. I love Le Creuset!
ReplyDeleteBoth. And I'll take a red one, please. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI keep mine in the fridge. While my grandparents have survived 90 years with butter on the countertop, I have also heard the fridge is safer. I don't know if that's true, but I go w/ the fridge just in case it is true.
ReplyDeleteI too love the red one!
I have some out on the counter, but only as much as I think we will use in a few days...don't like it to be out too long. The red butter dish would match my red pan that I have of the Le Creuset...thanks!!

Growing up my mom always kept in on the counter but I keep mine in the fridge... counter does make more sense though. Hate having to wait for the butter to soften in order to make toast! Love that orange one. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWe really only use butter on a rare occasion so it lives in the fridge but if we have company and things planned that require soft butter I *try* to remember to move it to the counter :)
ReplyDeleteFridge, I too had no clue you could leave butter out on the counter! You learn something new every day!
ReplyDeleteI keep mine in the fridge! But I know many people that don't.
ReplyDeleteWow! I've needed one of those for a looooong time and never got around to it! They are so cuuuuute! I want one!
ReplyDeleteI keep my butter in the fridge for the most part unless i'm going to bake or have company over for dinner (nobody wants cold butter on their dinner roll)
Great giveaway!
We keep our butter in the fridge. We don't use it a lot. I do try to remember to take it out if we will be using it.
ReplyDeleteI Blogged about the great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteHalf of the time the butter is on the counter waiting for me to use it for baking and the other half of the time it's in the fridge.
I LOVE the red butter dish!!! So lovely!
http://all-things-beau-ti-ful.blogspot.com/2012/08/want-one-of-these.html
I keep it in the fridge, but I like the taste better when it's on the counter.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea I could leave it out! Mine is always in the fridge.
ReplyDeleteI keep it in the fridge.... I've always been too scared to leave it out thinking it would get contaminated or something.
ReplyDeleteI keep my butter in the refrigerator. I was always afraid it would spoil on the counter! Love those beautiful butter dishes!
ReplyDeleteI keep mine on the counter!!!! It's wonderful:) Toast at any time of the day with no preparation!
ReplyDeleteBlogged about it:)
ReplyDeleteIn the refrigerator.
ReplyDeleteI keep mine in the fridge. I didn't know leaving it on the counter was even an option.
ReplyDeleteI keep mine in the fridge because I didn't know you could leave it out either! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLately, we've been going through butter more quickly (growing family + stopped using margarine) so I've been leaving it on the counter. Since it only sits out for a few days or a week max, I don't worry about keeping it cold like I used to do!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know anyone kept butter out. Shocking news flash here!! I will have a hard time changing this! It's like hearing some people keep syrup in the fridge... I didn't know that either!
ReplyDeleteI keep it in the fridge unless we are having guests over for dinner!
ReplyDeleteGrowing up, my family always kept pours in the fridge. My husband's family - the counter. It grossed me out at first but now I'm glad. We keep one stick on the counter and store the rest in the fridge.
ReplyDeleteI love the red one!!!
ReplyDeleteWe always kept ours in the fridge!!
:)

I am 50/50 kind of girl......half the time in the fridge the other half on the counter...and i would want the blue or red.....probably blue.

ReplyDeletei keep it in the fridge but envy the softness of leaving it out - but i just can't do it
ReplyDeleteWe keep it in the fridge. I honestly didn't think it was safe to leave it on the countertop. Maybe it's because I didn't have a cute dish to put it in:).
ReplyDeleteI keep it in the fridge! I too, thought it had to be in there!!!
ReplyDeletein the fridge! but sounds like its time for a change!
ReplyDeleteOn the box it does say to keep it refrigerated, and I'm a rule follower, so I keep it cold :)
ReplyDeleteI keep it on the counter, the hubby likes it that way :). Im new to blogging and absolutely love what you are doing here! Fantastic idea. Check me out at http://hopefulhouse-wife.blogspot.com/
ReplyDelete
